# Sending SMS automatically with HubSpot workflows

## Automate SMS from any workflow trigger, at any list size

## Adding the Send SMS action

1. Go to **Automation > Workflows** and open (or create) a workflow
2. Click the **+** to add an action, and search for **Send SMS**
3. Configure the message, the contact property to send to (defaults to *Phone Number*), and optionally a specific sender number

If you're running an A/B split or multiple branches from the same workflow, give each branch a distinct **Action Name** -- this keeps their sends clearly labeled in the contact's SMS history so you can tell which branch actually sent a given message.

## How enrollment and sending works

When a contact enrolls in the workflow, the action confirms they haven't opted out, then queues the message for sending -- the workflow doesn't wait around for the SMS to actually go out, so it keeps moving immediately.

## Sending to large lists

You don't need to do anything differently for a large enrollment. When many contacts are queued for the same message from the same sender at once, Sublime SMS automatically groups and sends them together in efficient batches behind the scenes, rather than one at a time. There's nothing to configure -- this happens automatically regardless of list size.

## Opt-outs are respected automatically

Any contact who has unsubscribed (by replying STOP, or via a manual opt-out) is automatically skipped -- the workflow won't send them a message, even if they're enrolled.
